Vieira: the city will be a world power
Posted on | Tuesday, July 19, 2011 | No Comments
Patrick Vieira is confident Manchester City is on track to become one of the biggest clubs in the world.
And the former City midfielder, who has announced his retirement last week, hopes to play his part, begins a new off-field role at Telstra Dome.
Abundance of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan has increased in the city is a top, and last season's FA Cup victory after taking part in the Champions League, and the possible challenge for the title next term.
Vieira, now a football team in Executive Development, is excited about the possibilities.
The 35-year-old said: "I think the goal and ambition of all the people who work for this football club is very high.
"They want to challenge the biggest clubs in the world, and the club is there.
"When you look at the club three years ago and where it is now, is a big change. You never know where the club is three years.
"We just work hard, keep believing in what we do and I'm sure the club would be more challenging in the world."
Vieira will be mainly remembered as a legend of Arsenal after making 372 appearances and won three championships in nine years with the Gunners.
He made only 12 league games after joining the city in January 2010, but the club has made a huge impact with her and she wanted to stay in some way, after deciding to retire.
Vieira, who also won 107 caps for France, said: "It was time for me to hang up the boots, but I'm really happy with my new role.
"I was at the club for a year and a half, but I feel I've been here for 10 years.
"The football club is growing so fast and I'm really proud to be part of it.
"It 'a tough decision, but it was easy at the same time, as the club's proposal to work them was exciting.
"I wanted to learn from the other part of the game too, and a club for less."
Vieira said that the city has unveiled ambitious plans for a new 80-acre, state-of-the-art training complex near the Telstra Dome.
As part of the recently announced intention of the club Etihad Campus to develop a world-class facility for their first team and academy.
"It's fantastic, unbelievable," said Vieira. "When you're a player you want is a facility where you can express yourself and learn.
"I do not think you will find a better opportunity than this world."
