Capable of playing anywhere across the back four and even in defensive midfield, Boateng has already created an impression despite his young age. A precocious talent at Hertha Berlin, he became a key part of the Hamburg team following his move in 2007 and won his first international cap for Germany in 2009.

His international debut saw him dismissed for two yellow cards, but national coach Joachim Low stood by him, and he eventually forced his way into the first team during the World Cup finals.

Having sealed a move to Manchester City, he is now looking forward to the challenge ahead as he battles for a place alongside an array of expensive talents.

Strengths: Good acceleration, strong in the tackle, imposing physique.

Career low: Boateng said he would no longer speak to his brother, Portsmouth and Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng, after he injured Chelsea and Germany star Michael Ballack during the 2010 FA Cup final. Jerome was unhappy at the media intrusion that followed and fell out with Kevin-Prince after he failed to defend the tackle when questioned by the press.
