Bruce: He Believes Sunderland

Steve Bruce believes Sunderland winning Connor Wickham proves they are a force to reckon with.

Black Cats put together a package that could be worth as much as £ 12 million to lure the England U21 star Wickham of Ipswich.

Your signature is seen as a sign of intention to Sunderland in an attempt to become a place of the first half of the Premier League team.

Seeing the competition the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham to land on Wickham suggests they are going in the right direction.

Bruce thinks he, and tilts his latest recruit to be a resounding success for the Wearside.

He said: "The signing of Connor Wickham is a letter of intent with Sunderland.

"This is a bold sign, which shows that we build for the future.

"There were many clubs after him but were those who were prepared to respond to the evaluation of Ipswich.

"It's also a testament to our progress as a club that Connor wanted to come here. I'm sure it will be a big hit with fans."

Bruce has already spent about £ 20 million this summer, Wickham, Craig Gardner, Sebastian Larsson, Keiren Westwood, and Ji-Won Dong, but hopes to add new faces to his new rank, prior to the 2011/12 campaign begins.

"I am absolutely delighted that we can get as many players ahead of the change in pre-season," he said.

"We brought in five new quality shopping, and, of course, (Ahmed) Elmohamady permanent loan for a lot - and we hope that we will."
