Modric Must be Defended If Spurs want Return to Champions League

London - Tottenham Hotspur was associated with a polemic Luka Modric. Martin Jol suggested that Croatian footballer was maintained if the Spurs still want to return to the Champions League.

Despite saying it will not ever leave, it later changed its stance Modric. The 25-year-old playmaker said he wanted to go and pick Chelsea as a club goal.


Not only the Blues, Manchester United and several other top European clubs wanted Modric services. But the stronghold of The Lily Whites would not sell the firm's star.

Jol, the Tottenham manager from 2004 to 2007 and his former club's Champions League after failing to overtaken Arsenal in the last week in the 2004-05 season.

While still in power at White Hart Lane, Jol to sell Michael Carrick to Manchester United and before he left, Dimitar Berbatov was then sold to the same club. Now re-experienced the same situation where the Spurs are not allowed to repeat the mistake of selling star.

"People always say that if you sell Carrick or Berbatov, then you just have to sell your own club. In the Netherlands, it is a compliment, but in England is not so," said Jol on Sky Sports.

"If the Spurs can maintain Modric, it will be a big difference and gives a good start if they want to return to the big four," concluded the man who now melaih Fulham's.
