VDV: Modrice sad to stay

Rafael van der Vaart says the Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Luka Modric was "a little 'disappointed' after the training refused to budge.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has held talks with the midfielder over his future Wednesday night and then reiterated that he was leaving the north London club at any price.

He refused to reveal the Modrice views on the situation after the Croatian revealed last month he wanted to leave the Lane this summer, the London rivals Chelsea at his favorite spot.

25 years back pre-season with Tottenham on Thursday morning after spending his summer holidays in Croatia.

And his fellow midfielder Van der Vaart said he sympathizes with the situation after Modric Chelsea made a failed £ 22 million for his services.

"He was happy to see us," Van der Vaart told Sky Sports News. "Maybe (it was) a little disappointed, but I can understand that.

"It's not easy when a club wants to buy.

"But I think he is happy here and he also said he likes to play with us again and train with us.

"We are delighted that he is staying."

Modrice asked for his heart to go along with Chelsea, Van der Vaart said: "I do not know not what I said ..

"He likes it here and likes to stay in London.

"So I think next season we have a good chance of winning against Chelsea."

Levy and the Spurs, Harry Redknapp has stressed the importance of keeping key players like Modric, Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale extreme, if they continue to progress.

And the Dutch Van der Vaart echoed this position, adding: "It's great to keep the players (Modric) is fantastic.

"We want to be in the top four again, and maybe more this year. So we need to keep good players.

"We had a great season last year and this is new. I think there will be more difficult, but we all stayed, and we are going to play a good season."
