Liverpool to Downing some success

Barclays Premier League said Thursday it had agreed a fee for Aston Villa winger.

The Reds are in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia on the leg of his tour of Asia 2011, in exclusive statements to ESPNSTAR.com, Phil Thompson and Kenny Dalglish, once welcomed the arrival of England international, who is expected to have a medical at Anfield on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference before Liverpool's friendly against the Malaysian XI, Ambassador Thompson said: "That player is Aston Villa, was easily their best player last season."

"Obviously, with the signing of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, we have the firepower up front. But what we missed this year is wide. And it will give us the Downing.

"There is no doubt that we have the likes of Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez, were both excellent time for us last year, chipping and targets.

"But the ability to deliver the final ball to Downing on the last third of the land will be crucial for us," he said.

ESPNSTAR.com also got the inside track on how the negotiations went to Aston Villa from Liverpool Director Dalglish himself.

"We have received permission to speak with him and we will do just that," said the Scot.

"If we agree terms he will undergo a medical examination. So I'm sure it's a work in progress, but I hope to be successful in the club."

Although offering the latest Liverpool to Downing not disclosed by either club, the England star is supposed to come with a price of £ 20 million. The Reds had previously offered £ 12 million and 15 million pounds lost.
