Dos Santos issues apology

Mexico midfielder Jonathan dos Santos, has publicly apologized for his part in the event, which saw his team-mates and the seven international interruptions hands of six months.

Eight members of Mexico Copa America squad were suspended last week for violating team discipline.

Players - Dos Santos, Nestor Vidrio, Israel Jimenez, Jorge Hernandez, David Cabrera, Marco Fabiano, Javier Cortes and Nestor Calderon - also fined 50 000 Mexican pesos (about £ 2640) each.

Barcelona B midfielder Dos Santos, 21, www.fcbarcelona.cat, said: "I'm here to face the music that has made a mistake ..

"I am very sorry for what I did and I apologize to the team, my teammates, the entire coaching staff and Mexicans. I am here and I'm responsible."

He added: "I apologize for my club and my family.

"I have a very clean record - nine years at the club and there was never a problem with me.

"I've always been disciplined, but we are all human beings - we all made mistakes.

"I decided to participate in a series of Barcelona and also in Mexico to do something to counteract the damage."

The Mexican Federation did not reveal any details about the incident that took place after a 1-0 Copa America warm-up win over Ecuador, but said the players were sorry for their actions.
