The Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has proved not to be worried about his future in the wake of interest of his club Inter Wesley Sneijder.

Since 2006, his move to Tottenham, Carrick has been a starter set, and its place in eleven of the United States Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice was more or less safe in recent years.

But questions began to emerge last season about his future at Old Trafford, especially in the wake of Carrick is less than impressive performance in a couple of big games.

And with veteran Paul Scholes, a midfielder, and finally call it a day at the end of last season, United were looking to strengthen his midfield this season, and were strongly related to Sneijder.

This would certainly make it harder to keep Carrick starting spot in the heart of midfield, the player of 30 years welcomed the addition of Sneijder.

"The club, therefore, must always be the players and the names bandied around," said Carrick in the sun.

"To be honest, as a player, you want the best players to be here, either in my position or not.

"We had before and I'm sure we will again."

While many tipping United to fight without Scholes, Carrick does not believe this is the case, and use the example of the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid in 2009 as a classic example of the fact that the Red Devils will also be able to manage loss of personnel.

"When Cristiano left, they said, 'You can not replace it because the player" - but you have to adapt as a team and as a team.

"We lost Scholesy but we have to adapt."

Carrick is adamant that none of the midfielders United should try to imitate the way Scholes dictated the game, and just keep playing the way they usually do.

"I'm not playing as Scholesy because it is not my game - and it is Anderson and Ryan Giggs.

"You have to adapt in different ways, and I'm sure we will.

"I will not change as a player I am. You are your own player, his personality and character.

"I'll keep doing the things I do. Has been made in recent years, so it will not change my way of doing things."

United have won all their matches in their pre-season campaign, but their biggest test comes to Washington on Saturday night when they face Barcelona, who beat them convincingly in the finals last season in the Champions League.

Carrick admits Barca are now the team to beat, but believes that this can be done.

"Barcelona is at the forefront and taken to the next level - and it is our intention to do so.

"They are not invincible and we have shown that.

"They are a great team of players special, and it is our challenge."

And while Carrick admits he is not to forget the disappointment of being totally dominated in the final last season in the Champions League, he believes, can stimulate tearing United greater things.

"We must look to the future. It is not forgotten. This is something that drives you.

"The failures of this type are the things that come out when one looks back.

"The negatives are not highlighted, strengths, and that is something we are very willing to be fine."

After retirement, Scholes, Gary Neville and Edwin van der Sar, Carrick is now considered one of the elder statesmen States with 231 appearances for the club during a spell of five years.

However, the England International believes that the younger generation can have a positive effect on senior players, with their youthful enthusiasm for the brand.

"Apparel is a bit strange," he said. "I definitely feel a little more.

"And 'well, however. The energy and enthusiasm of the younger boys have a great and training has been really good."
