Cannavaro hangs up his boots

Italy 2006 World Cup-winning captain Fabio Cannavaro is a retirement age of 37 because of ongoing knee injury.

Cannavaro has announced its decision on Saturday after playing a year in United Arab Emirates Al Ahli.

The 37-year-old started his career in Naples and went on to star in Parma, Inter Milan, Juventus - where he had two spells - and Real Madrid.

The timing of the Crown in his career in Berlin July 9, 2006, when Italy beat France on penalties after a 1-1, to win the World Cup.

He won the FIFA World Player of the Year that same year, and covered with the Italian player, making 136 appearances in 1997-2010.

"I'm very sad, football is everything to me. Unfortunately, my knee can not bear," said Cannavaro, according www.gazzetta.it.

Speaking in Dubai, Cannavaro has confirmed his intention to stay with Al Ahli.

He said: "I intend to stay here in the next three years, a director."

Cannavaro, who was born in Naples, the captain of his country through the 2010 World Cup campaign in South Africa, but ended his international career after the disappointment of not reaching the knockout stages.
