Singapore - ASEAN Superliga could take place within the next few years. The most important thing that remains is how this competition is formulated to support the local football in each country.

This was revealed by Andrew Georgiou, chief executive of World Sport Group, the partners of South East Asia Football Federation (AFF) in terms of marketing.

"AFF has formed a sub-committee to discuss this," Georgiou said quoted by AFP.

ASEAN's first Super League proposal put forward by the football federation of Singapore in 2006. World Sport Group estimates that this competition can take place most rapidly in 2013.

Straits Times reported, the concept of this competition is offered followed by between 12 to 16 teams from member countries of the AFF. Large country like Indonesia could send two to three representatives. Each team will have an annual budget of 2 million U.S. dollars and prizes for the winners is 1 million U.S. dollars.

There is one important thing that remains the key considerations for the realization of the plan. "The most critical thing is we have to ensure this competition is to support local football in each country," says Georgiou.

"We do not want to turn off the local league. We want to provide a step that bridges between the local leagues to national teams, because the main purpose of this competition is to improve the quality of the national team," he continued.

Georgiou view that the quality of national teams in the Southeast Asia region is very poor even though the favorite sport of football into the community.

"No team from Southeast Asia to qualify for the Asian Cup this year, no team from Southeast Asia who can not do much in the World Cup qualifiers."

"The quality of the national team's miserable here, and the reason of that is the quality of the clubs that there is also bad," he concluded.
